Our Impact Model
What We Accomplished in 2025–26
Over the past year, we inspired and engaged 1,500+ students and 150+ student leaders across the U.S. and Bengaluru, India through the Divergent Hackathon framework.
Our approach is simple but powerful: a student-led, adult-supported framework:
Students were encouraged to identify problems they genuinely cared about in their own communities and then take ownership of developing solutions. This journey culminated in our first-ever Divergent National Cup, held July 18–19, 2026, in Seattle.
We were incredibly proud to provide seed funding to two winning student ideas and continue coaching other top finalists toward potential pilot opportunities, including connections with Seattle universities and community partners.
The Student Leadership Multiplier
One of the most exciting outcomes of our 2026 work is that many of our student directors across the U.S. are already asking: "When can we lead the next Divergent Project-Based Hackathon in our community?" That is exactly what we hoped would happen.
Divergent Teams is building a model where students don't remain participants. They become:
Student → Student Leader → Coach → Hackathon Facilitator → Community Problem Solver
Adult volunteers, educators, mentors and industry professionals provide the structure, expertise and support, while students increasingly take ownership of the experience. This student-led, adult-supported model is the foundation of Divergent Teams.
